User Roles and Permissions in TALARIA #

TALARIA introduces a structured system of user roles that provide specific levels of control over platform actions. Users can be authorized for multiple roles simultaneously, within the same library or across multiple libraries, depending on their responsibilities.

Administrative Roles #

• Community Manager: Oversees the onboarding of new libraries. When a new library requests to join the community (see “Library Registration”), the Community manager verifies data validity, checks for duplicates, and enables the library to begin exchanging requests and documents.

Library Operator Roles #

• Library Manager: Automatically assigned upon user registration if the user chooses to register a new library in the system. The Library Manager maintains full control over all library operations and possesses the administrative authority to invite, activate, deactivate, and remove all other library operators (including fellow Library Managers).
• Borrowing Operator: Manages the submission, tracking, and overall workflow of borrowing requests sent to other libraries.
• Lending Operator: Handles the supply and fulfillment of materials requested by other libraries.

Patron and End-User Management Roles #

If end-user management is enabled during the initial TALARIA setup (indicating that the community manages patron requests), three additional operator roles become available:

• User Management Operator: Administers and processes the library’s patron registration requests.
• Delivery Operator: Manages Pick-up Desks, including printing and delivering requested documents that cannot be delivered digitally to the library’s patrons.
• Patron User: Can manage their personal bibliography, request references, and edit their personal information. Patron users can belong to one or more libraries, provided they are associated with an active library already present in the community.
